How much does it cost to remove some built in kitchen cabinets and bar height granite counter top underneath? We are looking into a house with a very nice new kitchen however instead of using the eat-in area for a table and chairs to sit down and eat, the people put in a lot more built-in cabinets with bar height granite counter top umderneath and 2 stools to eat at the counter top (hope Im describing this okay). We would like to remove this whole built in piece/pieces to use that area for a regular kitchen table and chairs so our family can sit down as a family and eat together. With these cabinets, counter top, stools etc there is no room for regular table and chairs. Is this a major job? The kitchen has plenty of cabinets without these and we are trying to find out if this is an expensive thing to do. Does anyone know a ball park price to remove it? A few hundred? Over a thousand? Thank you so much.

Is there any plumbing or electric in that area?
Does the floor continue underneath the cabinets? Are the cabinets attached to the wall?
Where do you live?
If there is no plumbing or electric, it won't be very expensive to remove the items. But you may have restoration work to do.

I can't imagine you could do it for a few hundred unless you are doing it yourself and don't care how it comes out. In that case you wouldn't be asking. If you diy it will leave scars. You will need to replace the floor and the walls will have scars unless you have amazing painters and they are not cheap. Forget about trying to match tiles etc because most change very often - sometimes yearly.

Agree with others that restoration work may be a large hidden cost here.
Get an estimate from a handyman. If you have a another place in the house to put the bar, the storage sounds useful and the old stuff won't have to hauled away.

I only saw the house once so far so next time will take a closer look.I think the cabinets don't go all the way to floor so those could stay. May just be the bar height counter that needs to go? There is no electric in this area- just a built in microwave
