My daughter loves puzzles (8-12 pieces) , books (laminated that don't rip easily), dolly stroller (although most kids have one).

My kids got this game a few years ago as a gift. It's great because they can play totally independently as it gives verbal instructions and it's simple enough for a 3 year old to follow. It also incorporates movement which I liked.

Here it's over $20-it seems like it's no longer made and that's why it's so expensive (when my kids were gifted it it was under $20).
If you're willing to buy used you can find it here http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer.....n=all for about $20.

Other ideas are dress up clothes or toy food/accessories.

My just 4 year old loves:
puzzles - she does harder ones already.
laminated book with a CD - She just got Yael becomes a giver, she really enjoys that. I purchased the book laminated and bound.
Doll Highchair or bassinet. I have kidcraft which is nice quality - but it costs minimum 24.00.
