Some of my most used cookbooks are community cookbooks. I think The Kosher Palette was mostly Susie Fishbein but a school coordinated effort. These kinds of cookbooks have great, triple-tested recipes, for real people.
The Mishpacha cookbook is pretty user-friendly too.

Most of the cookbooks mentioned here are not so heimish, in my opinion. My favorite cookbooks include Dining In, Dining In Again, What's Cooking, and the Mishpacha's The Best of Family Table. I recently purchased The Balabusta's Choice 2, but didn't get a chance to look through it yet. I really don't go for Susie Fishbein's style, Secret Restaurant Recipes (although I like some of Victoria Dwek and Leah Schapira's books, including Fresh and Easy and the Made Easy books) or the Bais Yaakov cookbook.
