I just bought myself a new skirt. The label says it's made of 77% polester, 21% viscose, and 2% spandex. It says to dry clean only. I'm usually careful to check labels before wearing buy I forgot this time. Can I wash it in cold water on a gentle cycle or do I really need to dry clean it?

How bad will you feel if you ruin it?
Many all-synthetic items that say "dry clean" can be safely washed BY HAND in cold water. However, you're always taking a risk, because the fiber content refers to the fabric itself, not to any thread, interfacing, bonding material and so on. So while the fabric itself may wash like a dream, the interfacing may shrink and cause the waistband or other tailoring details to pucker.
FTR, fused-on tailoring details sometimes come to grief even when dry-cleaned.
