how much should a couple give for a bar mitzvah Shabbos luncheon ( on Long Island, not 5T)?

I'm not clear on the question. Do you base what you give on paying the parents, or do you give something more if the simcha is fancier, or do you give a gift to the bar mitzvah boy and if so, do you base it on your relationship and means?
Does this help clarify?

It depends on your resources and how close you are to the family, but I would think somewhere around $50 would be reasonable.
