Clearly someone wasn't pregnant because throwing up in the street looks a whole lot worse!

I agree it isn't classy, but I can't say I've never done it, especially drinking.

It also gets complicated with brachos because you are supposed to bench in the same place you say in.

classy, refined, regal ... all totally overrated Smile Much nicer to laugh with friends and eat ice cream cones on the street, at a carnival, on the beach, etc.

I've been near people on the city bus or train (ie, an enclosed place with no ventilation) who unpacked hot burgers with pickles and fries. I'm prone to motion sickness, and sensitive to smells, and this was extremely nauseating.

The reason why certain behaviors are considered to be not "classy" is because they don't take into account the people around you.

I asked DH. He says it's not halacha per se, it just doesn't "look nice". It's not something that a ben or bas melech does. He puts it in the same category of things like running for the bus or yelling hello at someone you recognize across the street. It's undignified.

If you can't imagine the Queen of England doing it, then you shouldn't be doing it either (in public, that is. I'm sure the Queen picks her nose, we just don't need to know about it.)

DH will sit in a sidewalk cafe, but he won't walk down the street with food or drink in his hand.

I can't imagine the Queen doing her own shopping, so I'm not going to do it anymore.

Seriously, you guys don't run for the bus? Yelling hello at someone you recognize across the street also seems pretty normal to me.

I think eating outside had a different social context in the time of the Talmud, no street food apparently.
How can you put running to catch a bus in the same sentence as picking your nose in public?
