I've been saving tasters choice coffee jars and I was planning on using them for MM.
I thought I would spray paint the covers, remove the stickers and write on the glass with etching cream, tie with a ribbon.

I'm not sure what to fill it with...

Layered salad is a good idea, but hard to do too much in advance.
You can make mini biscotti. Or mini finishes or eggrolls or Franks n blanks if you like to give real food

OP said she would etch the glass... Toiveling containers for MM is very complicated as you cant toivel on behalf of someone witbout their involvement. Some say you both toivel the keli. Some say only the recipient... ask a shaila.
Can you fill it with soup and give breadsticks or melba toast tied on top?

what about different sweets in each jar? or maybe one glass has flour, the next glass has chocolate chips, the next glass has sugar etc....all the ingredients to bake a cake and then the recipient just has to add fresh eggs or whatever!

That doesn't work for m"m. You need to give food that can be eaten as is, so food that has to be baked doesn't count.

Please don't put loose unwrapped candies. They are likely to be thrown out.

I don't know if you're into themes, but you could easily put together something coffee related.

Even if they are glass, this is a pretty big machlokes. The way I learned in high school, she does not need to toivel them because when she bought them, they were not dishes-they were merely a way to transport the coffee home. She- jew- is making them into a reusable dish, and therefore they do not need tevila (like all dishes created by Jews and not owned by non-jews).

Sidenote, if you choose to do a layered salad only, AYLOR if that would constitute two foods (ie, lettuce and tomato) or one food (salad) to make sure it fulfills your obligation.
