I am looking into becoming a medical biller for pharmacies.
Is anyone familiar with how the small pharmacies currently do their billing to insurance?
I see there are courses I can take to become a biller.

Thanks in advance

If you were interested in becoming a medical biller for nursing homes the pay is excellent and where I live, there are not enough of them so you can find a job no problem. I am a recruiter for healthcare professionals in IL.

Thanks! That may be of interest,
Do the nursing homes outsource their billing, or do it in house?

Pharmacies buy software packages that directly bill the insurance when they process presecriptions. If there is an issue with the payment, they get a rejection message. That's when they have to start calling back the doctor to switch to a different version of the medication when possible, or they tell the customer to call their insurance company to discuss why the medication is being rejected and what to do next (prior authorization, etc.). Pharmacies do not usually hire a person to handle billing, although I do have a friend who calls the insurance companies to fight the pharmacy rejects on behalf of the pharmacy. Maybe they get more business that way, since the customers don't have to do it.

Sorry op just saw this. Where I live it is done in house. Salaries are different across regions but pay starts in the high 30's and can easily get to the 60's. Management is more.
