My son had an upsherin yesterday. He refused to wear yarmulka and tzitzis and refused again today. He wouldnt even let me put it in his backpack. This is my oldest. I am assuming this is normal behavior as this is a big change in his life. This morning I told him boys that wear yarmulkas get special yarmulka candy. His response to me was "I don't want a candy." When we trained him he was also very stubborn and bribery did not work. I had to literally hold him down on the potty and force him to sit. I think it makes sense not to push the issue too much and when he sees the other boys in his class all wearing yarmulka and tzitzis hell want to wear his today and gradually he will just start wearing. On the other hand he is a very stubborn kid and I dont want to ignore the issue hoping it will go away and then regret it later...Any advice? How do I get him to want to wear his yarmulka and tzitzis.

You have the answer already, when he sees all his friends doing it he will want to do it too. If you put too much pressure on him it will backfire and he will resent it.

My almost 4 year old doesn't wear either. I don't force it. When he's ready, he will wear.

Yup. totally normal. So normal that I thought there was something wrong with my son because he kept his yarmulka and tzitzis on. He even moved his tzitzis away when going to the bathroom. I was seriously confused!
