It depends on the size and type of shul.
One thing to remember is that you will be the public face of the institution. How you treat people is very important. It's a job suited for a cheerful, upbeat personality.

It all depends on the shul
Its like being a mayor of a little hamlet of40 pp!l as opposed to new York city

I used to be a shule secretary. I dealt a lot with Kaddish requests, donations and Mi SheBairachs. I don't know if that is the norm though.

You probably need to be reasonably adept with Microsoft Office and possibly shul management software. You will need to be able to handle business communications (phones, letter writing, email) in a professional manner. Beyond that, I agree with the previous response - someone from the shul leadership should be able to describe what they are looking for. There may be scheduling, ordering supplies, dealing with vendors - the usual office tasks.

Busy times are usually Erev Shabbos and Erev yontif, so beware.  Mi shaberachs, shul bulletins, phone calls, emails, yahrzeits, coordinating events. High holiday seating is a big thing that some shul secretaries deal with.
Pay is probably whatever average secretary pay is.
