What kind of community are you looking for?
Does it need to be near any particular type of school?
What about jobs?

There's a lot more to affordable living than the cost of real estate. You can get dirt cheap housing in some places, but what about the job market? Taxes? Need for 2 cars? Tuition? Kosher food? Cost of visiting family?
I'm all in favor of finding an appropriate community. Just look at the big picture.

Thx 5mom gave me something to think about... We were thinking more along the lines of we would never be able to buy a house for 600+k like where we live now
So what do you suggest then?? I heard Miami has no taxes on the first house u own is that true?

We are moving to scranton pa. We found a nice big house for under $150k. Finding a job was a bit more challenging but after six months of searching that worked out as well. (We waited to have jobs lined up before buying the house.)

Almost anywhere outside of big cities I.e. Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis.
Just look outside of NY. But first find a community you like.

Hi! I am not from Atlanta, but I have heard that housing isn't as cheap as other places like South Bend, Indiana where I am from. The great thing about South Bend is not only are the houses reasonable the taxes are affordable, the day school has tuition vouchers and they even have someone that works full time helping people find jobs! If you want to learn more about South Bend (only two hours from Chicago, 3.5 from Detroit and 4 from Cleveland) than feel free to check out their website at www.cdisouthbend.com or e-mail michallgoldman@gmail.com she is the contact person for the jobs etc. Good luck!
