How do we do this in practicality? How to increase in joy?

We sing layehudim by havdalah.

We put on Purim songs and stories for the kids.

We begin plannig Purim costumes.

We buy hamentashen.

But if you're asking on a deeper level... I dunno either. Smile

Thanks youngish bear for the ideas. It's a real start. I am thinking about what you suggested and also on a deeper level. Did I post this question last year? Lol I always wonder how to actually increase in joy

Singing layehudim after havdala does the whole family sing it? Is that your thing or a min hag? I like it! Maybe we can do that too

Make a gratitude list or share what you are grateful for at Shabbat meals.

It's a possuk in havdalah itself. We pause and sing it right there in the middle.

Regarding joy on a deeper level, the best recipe for joy is to practice finding gratitudes. I should get back into it with my kids. They used to love doing it but I neglected it lately. We used to have a gratitude book where I wrote down what they were happy about that day.

Start prepping for Purim. Decorate the house, play Purim music, sing Purim songs, write and rehearse Purimspiels and grammen, plan and make costumes and MM. Works for me because Purim is my #1 all-time favorite holiday bar none. YMMV.
