We are moving, and I'm trying to decide what to do about our old upright freezer. It is about 20 years old and still functions. It's not frost free so I have to periodically defrost. I don't know how much electricity it uses exactly. I'm thinking between the moving expense and the energy use it would be better to replace it. Only thing that worries me is that newer appliances seem to have a shorter life than older models. It's our only appliance that has lasted this long without ever breaking down.

You could figure out how much energy your old freezer consumes with one of these neat little meters:
Kill-a-Watt meter
