We will be doing major construction to the extent that we will have to move out for two months. Totally redoing the main floor etc. have to move everything from main floor to the basement ( furniture they said they can move to the middle of the room)

Anyone have any tips how I can effectively and efficiently live through this?

You are so lucky - you can pack and move things into your own house (basement) and don't have to put things in storage etc!!!!

Start by counting those blessings.

Can you return to your house during construction?

You will want to start upstairs and pack clothing for weekdays and Shabbos for everyone, shoes, toiletries. Try to live with less and leave everything orderly for when you come back. Meaning just because you have to pack up clothes etc, doesn't mean those bedrooms should be a wreck. You can also perhaps do some seasonal organizing as you pack up - so the moving out and back in is an incentive to reorganize, de-clutter, get rid of things you don't need. You should only need winter things if you are leaving every soon - is that the case?

Regarding the downstairs- mostly it'll be the kitchen - is this altogether being redone? You will divide up what you will take with and what you will pack and put in the basement.
If what's in the basement is labelled well and you can come in the house, you can come back for things you are missing.

(any concerns of robbery while the workers are working on the ground floor??)

Give us some more information so we can help you better.

Yes, pack like you're going on a trip for 2-3 months. Remember that construction rarely is completed as of the date it's supposed to be. Then pack up everything like you are moving - label the boxes so it's easy to find what you are looking for when you unpack.

Remove all valuables like silver, etc, and store them at a relative's house or something while you are gone.

Once your stuff is packed, hire movers to schlep the boxes and small furniture downstairs. Cover things well - you may want to cover your furniture with moving blankets as well as plastic to protect the furniture from bumps and scrapes.
