Thanks! I think you are correct. Back to no camera  .
Any other suggestions? I always went for Canon because of their reputation, but if anyone has really good experience with another, less expensive camera, I would love to know.
I live in Israel, but can get things in from the US, so I can buy there.

I find that with Canon the low-end ones are not great but the mid-range and high-end are excellent. In contrast it seems like Nikon does a pretty good job all around. So if I were aiming for the $60-70 cameras (on sale. Regular prices never that low but you often see sales advertised around $70-80 and as less frequently as low as in the 60's) I would go with Nikon.
Just judging based on other people's cameras that I've seen and used, plus my market research that I did before buying my camera (I have a higher-end Canon, mainly because it went on lightning deal around the time I was looking, so instead of actually making a choice I just jumped on the deal)

I bought a canon refurbished camera from their site for my kids, and considering it's $50, I'm happy with it.
