I made without the food coloring and you could only that it was two tone after you cut it. I made two batches of challah. One 100% WW flour and One white flour. I would def. reccommend adding caramel color, I added some coffee!!

Cocoa powder might work. the bakeries probably use caramel color.

My mother has made this with a white flour dough and a 100% whole wheat flour dough.
Maybe add the cocoa to the whole wheat for a darker contrast since the outside is more even in color when baked (while the inside is beautifully contrasted!)
