So I'm not so sure I did the right thing and need clarity
I was very close to a girl in high school, and for a few years afterwards. She had a hard time in school, and we became good friends.
I sadly let the friendship slip away , bec I was going thru a very difficult time a few years after high school.
I later tried reaching out numerous times with no response, and I've never been able to find her. I gave up, bec I hoped that she had moved on from her hard teenage years & didn't want to stir up old memories.
Anyhow, I recently joined a fb group of girls from my grade, and scrolling thru old posts I saw a mention of someone with a similar first name got engaged. (No last name)
I messaged the person who posted it, explaining how I lost touch and wondered if this was my old friend.
Now I'm anxious if that was a bit stalkerish, and a big no no, or if it's ok.

No, it's fine. That's what people do; they say "Are you my old friend? If so, hello! If not, ignore." Don't worry about it.

As long as you asked someone in a private message, which is what you said you did, your totally fine. And ps - facebook is for stalking. Thats why we like it.
