Here's another vote for focusing on how you can bless someone else with this possession. Even if it's theoretical, like when I designate my outgrown toddler-girl clothes (each piece totally a candidate for the Cuteness Nobel) for a little niece who is a bit younger than my daughter. It makes it much easier to part with the stuff, even though I then toss those clothes into the same 'send to gemach' box with the rest of my outgoing stuff.
(We get a lot of hand-me-downs so we do a brisk send-to-gemach business. Not brisk enough though. This thread!!)
