I have a few light fixtures (CFL, chandelier bulbs etc) that leave black marks on the ceiling.
One is in the bathroom fixture, where the bulbs are covered and still leave marks.
Why does this happen, how do I remove them, and prevent future ones?
The bulbs are not too high in wattage, we don't smoke, etc. Any ideas?

the heat on ... anyway you put it ...

use a good primer to coat area before painting ... I do not know how to stop this from happening - aside from putting in smaller bulbs with lower wattage

The chandelier bulbs are very low wattage, but the ceiling still gets black. Not a major deal, but kinda annoying.

Do they make LEDs in the right shape? That should stop it.

you got me curious so I looked up the reasons this could happen ... the most general one is that the dust in the air gets heated up and sticks to the surface.

"These relate to airborne dirt being thrust against the ceiling as a result of the thermals that are created by the heat of the light bulb."

Interesting. I wonder if the ceiling is washed often (what a pain!) if the marks could be avoided.

So interesting, greenietc, thanks for looking it up. Not all fixtures have this issue, bh. But washing the ceiling is a pain, especially right above a chandelier.....
I don't know if led bulbs would fit, would they make less marks?
