Anyone know of some good rental/gemachs where I can get a nice gown for my sister's wedding?
I am young and I am looking for something up to date. I also don't want to pay a lot of money, maybe $50-$100.
Suggestions please?
Thanks so much!!

Where are you and what's your Hashkafa?
There are places to go on Rabbi Akiva St. in Bnei Brak.
The reason I'm asking what your hashkafa is, is to get a better sense of what style of dress/gown you're looking for.
This is what I wore to my daughter's wedding:
It's a tunic and long layered skirt. It cost all of 150NIS and I bought it locally (to me) here in Ariel.

If you are willing to go to a gmach you can try Reichman's in Rechavia area 02-563-1257
not all their stuff is up to date but I found a beautiful gown there- got many compliments on it.

My hashkafa is yeshivish. I want something up to date by American standards, not something that's up to date in the moshav circles.
I live in yerushalaim, in ezras torah. I wouldn't want something far out like in rechavia or gilo!
Thanks so much!
Perhaps someone knows of a rental place that has good stuff and reasonable prices?
I am a size small and youngish (21), so I don't want something that's nice for a 40 year old!!!

IMO, you're not going to find stuff for the little you're looking to spend.
But like I said, try Rabbi Akiva Street in Bnei Brak.

Even though Rechavia might be a shlep, it's DEFINITELY worth it to go to reichmans. They have a beautiful selection and it only costs the price of the dry cleaning to rent. You give a NIS 300 check that they rip up when the dress is returned. Not all their dresses are the newest styles, but they do have a large selection. They definitely have things for a 21 yr old. They're only open weird hours and don't allow baby strollers in (I went with some one so we took turns watching the strollers and babies outside so that was a bit annoying).

You live in Jerusalem and think Rechavia and Gilo are a schlep???? Then forget about Bnei Brak because you'll actually have to leave Jerusalem for that...
I mean really... you want to spend a pittance, look fashionable and pretty, don't want to wear clothes a 40 year old would wear... AND you're unwilling to leave the 5 block radius of your own neighborhood?

I'm not usually one to strike up on this site...but Yesha that's a bit harsh. You don't know what's going on in her life that she may NOT be able to shlep and really may not be able to spend. Also, if it's still early on in the game, why can't she try and see if she can find cheap and close to home first, and then if there's nothing look to spend more and/or have to travel further?

There's going to end up being some kind of trade off.
If she can't/won't spend the money, chances are she'll have to widen her search. If she can't/won't leave her neighborhood, chances are she'll have to be willing to spend more money.
Look, when I went calling wedding gown gemachim, all of them told me it was 1500NIS for the gown, not including alterations, not including dry cleaning. To me, that's not a Gemach.
The reality is, shopping for Chassunah wear can be a full time job and unless you have a friend who wore something, chances are you're going to have to do a bit of schlepping or more.

Whew! Yesha, that is a bit strong.
I do see however, that it is not so simple to get the perfect gown without spending a lot or traveling far.
I have a baby and I am in college for my master's, in addition to working full time.
It's not like I am lazy. I am sure that you will show me how much busier you are than me and how you shlepped none the less. But for me, I feel that I have my hands full with work, and shlepping is way too difficult at this point in my life.
I do thank you for opening my eyes as to how complicated finding a gown here actually is.
I will check out the places close by and if I don't find, I will simply hit the gemachim in America a day before the chasuna. I am confident that I will find something without having to leave my comfort zone here, or in my home town in America.

I'm not sure how "fancy" you want the gown to be but if you are unable to find in the frum places I would check out the stores in 'town' they sometimes have really pretty long dresses which you can wear with a shell (if it's your type). The price you want to pay is a bit too little Im afraid but at least those dresses won't be 1500nis as Yesha said and as Ive seen in the frum places.
Also, I haven't shopped in Rabbi Akiva street in ages and ages but I know people who buy there (relatives) and yes they do have nice stuff and for pretty cheap but yes you would have to travel and that is hard in your situation.
Good luck.

I haven't lived in Yerushalayim in a while but there's Reichmans in Rechavia (maybe you could cab it?)
and there's sister of the bride in ramat eshkol a friend rented from there a number of years ago. I'm not sure what their stuff is like now.
I don't know how successful you'll be at finding a dress in the price range you'd like in America....
