4 months was the best age when we took my son he was adorable on the plane. Sociable, quiet and either feeding or sleeping most of the time. No safety issues more than for anything else. Nurse a lot if baby kvetches and it should be fine.

I've flown twice with newborns under 2 months...no problem.
