Looking for insight and advice. My 6.5mo once enjoyed being on the play mat but lately only wants to be held or be in a carrier. As soon as I put him down on the play mat, or a blanket with toys, or in the pack and play with toys or the swing he gets upset. He starts to whimper when I get anywhere near any of these things starts to cry when I out him down and then gets hysterical. So far nothing has helped. Sitting or lying beside him, etc... If I put him on his stomach even propped on a cushion under his chest so his hands are more free to play it's the same result. He right away flips onto his back and screams.

He is very happy to stand with support and sometimes likes to sit with support.

I am of course concerned about learning to crawl etc... If he is not spending time lying down. His sitting is still not the best and he flips easily from tummy to back but from back only turns onto his side.

What is behind this strange behavior?? Is it common at this age? And how do I help him out of it?

TIA

My son was like that when he was teething. He would constantly scream unless he was held. Try giving tylenol or motrin and see if your baby is any happier.
