We have two kids.
Pre-tax, I make $4,500 a month and my husband makes around $6,250 (it varies a bit because some of his income is commission), so a total of $10,750 per month.
Pre-tax, the following things come out -
approximately $850 in healthcare, dental and vision premiums to cover our whole family (though let's not forget that we still have a $6,000 deductible per year)
$400 for childcare flexible spending
About $1,000 a month into retirement savings
After-tax, we then pay for -
Mortgage - $1,150 (includes taxes and homeowners insurance)
Car Payments (2 cars) - $470
Car Insurance - $226
Food - about $1,000
Tzedakah - $300 a month, approximately
Childcare - $900 a month (this will be going up very soon)
Cleaning help - $90
Utilities - $150
Internet - $80
Cell Phones - $60
Miscellaneous - clothing, eating out, activities, etc. - $1,000
Savings - $250
I am probably missing a couple things here, but that's our general budget. Thank G-d, we make it work and save money and are able to spend money on things we want (though we are far from extravagant).
Reading through these posts, I don't understand how people have such cheap healthcare plans. I know ours is expensive, but I didn't realize HOW expensive. I also don't understand several posters who have stated that they have substantial incomes ($100k+) but have also mentioned that their children are covered by Medicaid.
