I wasn't sure where to ask this, but my dh was wondering what became of this extraordinarily insightful and kind man who prepared him for his Bar Mitzvah? He said they had months of conversation and studying that he still remembers. Obviously, the Rabbi must have died some time ago but dh can't remember his first name or even the community he was part of. (Someone else had made the shidduch for dh.) DH moved OOT shortly after but said this Rabbi made a real difference to him.

Ok--bumping under my screen name. DH is much less religious now but says this rabbi is someone whose memory helps him keep the derecho in mind.

Rottenstreich isn't such a common name. Call a few people by that name to see if they know who he was.

There is a principal in Lakewood Cheder, Rabbi Rottenstreich. There is probably a decent chance that they are related

This is amazing. My oldest son is having Bar Mitzvah and I wish there would be a rebbe or mentor to talk to him.

One "t"? We're oot so thanks for the direction.

In case any of you are relatives, I'll just say again how high my husband holds this man's memory.

It probably could be spelled either way but all three Rottenstreiches in the Lakewood directory are spelled with two "t"s

For what it's worth, OP, Google tells me there's a Rabbi Naftali Rotenstreich with one T who is with the Chabad of Gramercy Park. Maybe there's a connection there?
