Must I have a hood on top of my cooktop.
Or is it just for looks
Please explain why?
Can I just have a shorter cabinet on top?
Cooktop is electric

Was wondering the same but I'm putting in a gas cooktop. I have one now and haven't used the hood in 16 years.

The hood is usually for a fan. A fan in a kitchen is quite imp. Unless your remodeling your whl house you can put a fan through the roof of your kitchen. But otherwise I'd say to try as hard as you can to make room for it.

Is it important if it's an electric cooktop?
What if I put the cooktop on the island, do I still need the hood?
