I went to Costco on Friday and I saw a nice big box of blueberries. My kids love fresh blueberries. I thought it would be a nice Shabbos treat for them to have blueberries in their cereal and I wouldn't even have to ration them. I tasted a few blueberries when I got home, and they were mealy. Ugh. Costco is too far away for me to return the box of blueberries, but it's a lot of food to toss, and a waste of money too. So.... what can I do with the blueberries? Nobody will eat them fresh. I don't serve dessert during the week, so I really don't want to turn them into pie. Anything I make with them will have to freeze nicely. And throwing a few into pancakes, even if I were willing to stand over a hot stove right now, isn't going to cut it. We are talking a LOT of blueberries. (Which is one thing that drives me crazy about buying produce in Costco -- if it's no good, you are stuck with a whole lot of bad product.)

So, ladies, any ideas? I have a few ideas of my own, but would love to see what you can come up with too. Thanks.

Blend with yogurt and sweetener and make ice pops. But only try a bit first. They may taste grainy any way you serve them up.

Otherwise, try making a jam. The cooking might dissolve the grainy texture.

Freeze and use them for smoothies. Add to apple crumble (before baking ), blueberry cupcakes /pancakes. Add to other fruits (cherries, cooking apples, plums, nectarines, cherries )for cold fruit soup. Cook with sugar, thicken with cornflour for compote /jam.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I've had mealy blueberries before (but only a normal size container to use up), so I know that the texture is fine once you cook the blueberries. How would I go about freezing them? Just pop them in the freezer in their clam-shell? Do I need to spread them out on a cookie sheet? I don't think I have enough flat freezer space right now.

Just wash/rinse and wipe with paper towels, freeze them as they are in a ziplock bag. Once frozen, you can gently break them up.

Freeze them on a cookie sheet then transfer to ziplock bags. Do one tray at a time if space is limited.
