My cholent is really delicious if I may say so myself!
I put my cholent in the crock pot in the following order and don't mix it. Somehow the layers make it come out great.

Beans
Cheek Meat
Potatoes
Barley
Onion chopped
Onion soup mix
Dark brown sugar
Water to cover
Keep crockpot on low

That sounds really good! Thanks! Never thought of brown sugar but I can see how that would taste great with the onions and other stuff.

salt n pepper
1 or 2 squirts of soy sauce
Sweet Paprika
teaspoon hot paprika
2-3 Dates OR 2 tablespoons of Date honey (aka as Silan)

I saute chopped onions and cloves of whole head of garlic first.
Then brown goulash meat before adding water.
Add potatoes
Chickpeas
2 peeled carrots
few hardboiled/peeled eggs
Sometimes I throw in some sausages or Kishke on top

Cholent is DELICIOUS - everyone loves it.

I don't do cholent. I do hamin or adafina instead.
loads of sautéed onions
loads of paprika, generous cumin, a bit of cinnamon
soaked wheatberries instead of barley or rice. It doesn't get mushy
chickpeas
eggs
3 dates
a bit of harissa

small meatloaf with chopped herbs if I'm doing adafina

LOVE marrowbones with soft marrow... Glad I wasn't the only one.
