Washer Dryer Advice

Looking for a washer/dryer pair.
I have an experience with an old, around 10-15yo Whirlpool, which seems ok.
I've heard new ones aren't necessarily good.

Any comments on the following aspects will be really appreciated, as I don't have anyone to consult with irl.

1. Capacity: I'd like a higher capacity but don't know if they wash well and are reliable.

2. Pedestals: I'm 5'2", bending down is annoying. Pedestals would prob be more convenient but then I'm losing all the folding and hanging space above.

Laundry "room" in the new place doesn't have other walls for hanging stuff iirc.
It's basically a wall with hookups, and a built-in closet with too much storage on the opposite wall. The third wall is a small window, and fourth side is openings to kitchen, backyard, garage.

3. Front loader vs. top loader: what are the benefits?
I now have a top loader, and the plus is being able to throw in some extra stuff after the cycle started. Any benefits to front loaders?

Any other ideas are welcome!!
