I have had a hard time finding clean hearts of romaine. The last batch I bought from costco had not just thrips but also tons of live green aphids! I usually eat a salad every day. Bagged lettuce is expensive and doesn't taste as good. What to do?

I find the romaine hearts that I buy from Aldi to be the cleanest from all the other places I've tried.
(anon because I advertise this at every opportunity )

Lol, jetblack, do they have you on the payroll? Ok, aldi is a bit of a shep but their produce is so cheap it might be worth it. I haven't been there in a long time but heard the quality has gone up a lot. Are there certain days when things are freshest?

change the type of lettuce you buy & try not to get anything bagged ... much fresher and flavourful

I would assume that different stores would have their deliveries different days. It tends to be fresher earlier in the morning, but not right by opening because the fresh produce isn't yet on the shelves, but days of the week - I haven't tracked it.
