I'm not sure if my child's playgroup morah reports her income. Am I allowed to claim a tax deduction for playgroup anyway? Will doing so get her into trouble?

Don't you need toprove the expense with a receipt or something? Does she give receipts if she doesn't report?

They won't give it to you without a receipt, otherwise anyone can claim anything. Ask the morah for her tax ID, if she doesn't have one, you won't be able to claim. She won't get into trouble, they just won't give you the deduction.

If she reports her income then you can ask for her ss# and claim it as a deduction. Otherwise your kinda stuck.

she'd better report her income. if she's schedule C (not incorporated), then she likely only has her social security number to give you. But you use that and then the IRS matches up people who use that for a deduction with what she reports on her sch C (if they're on the ball, which they're not).

But even a sch C sole prop can get an EIN number and it would be smart of her to do that so she's not giving her SS # out.

You need her SS# to claim.
I get it from most of my children's babysitter and morahs.
Many people report at least some of their income to be earning something, it is better for them.
Some people had a limit and gave it to those who asked first, in return they asked that I notarize receipts that I paid them so that they had proof of income.
And some reported all income and didn't care how many people claimed.
And some just wouldn't give me their SS#.

Most of these heimishe home groups will not give over their social security number. You need it to file. I try to have these conversations before starting the group so it does not get akward.
