I recently got on Medicaid because we are in between jobs and while I am grateful for free care, I am not getting any care because every doctor I call within 10 miles doesn't accept new patients.
To drive 1/2 an hour to see a family doctor is really not practical.
Any suggestions?

I had the same issue. No pediatrician accepted patients unless I wanted to travel to the gang infested slums which are 45 minutes away. I ended up paying through my nose for insurance.

Chicago..
The closest normal family doctor I have been offered is in Glenview.
It's a 10 mile drive, with traffic last time it took an hour b/c it passes through really congested areas.

My understanding is that if I qualify for medicaid, I don't have a choice of getting a subsidy and choosing a higher plan and it would be fully out of pocket?
Is that correct?

There are many clinics near me.. They all only take Medicaid if you are an established patient. We are new to the city.

I didn't get a subsidy. I paid outrageous prices.
