My toddler loves to draw but the baby eats the crayons. I'm afraid to let the toddler have the crayons because if I miss one the baby could get poisoned. Are there edible crayons that hopefully taste horrible so the baby will stop eating them?

Most are made from paraffin. I would say that is pretty toxic. Especially if they are going to probably be in somebody's mouth.

Code:
Are Crayola and Silly Putty products nontoxic even if ingested?
The Crayola brand has been a trusted name in homes and schools for over 100 years. We have ensured that our products are safe since 1903, when we first began offering crayons.

All Crayola and Silly Putty products have been evaluated by an independent toxicologist and found to contain no known toxic substances in sufficient quantities to be harmful to the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. In addition, Crayola and Silly Putty art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) APPROVED PRODUCT (AP) seal, which indicates these products meet or exceed specific quality standards. If needed, your physician may contact the local poison control center for assistance in obtaining product ingredient information.

It is possible for an individual to have a sensitivity to a particular ingredient, just as one could have a sensitivity to a certain food. All Crayola formulas are compared against a list of common allergens to identify any possible sensitivities.

For more information about our commitment to safety, please visit http://www.crayola.com/support/product-safety.aspx  If we can provide further assistance, please call (800) 272-9652 weekdays between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

Thank you. This is what Crayola Says:

"We're glad you reached out to us with your questions about Crayola(R) Crayons because as the manufacturer of children's products, safety is our #1 goal.

The basic ingredients in Crayola Crayons are paraffin wax and color pigment. We know moms worry when their children put non-food items in their mouths. I want to assure you that all Crayola and Silly Putty(R) products have been evaluated by an independent toxicologist and found to contain no known toxic substances in sufficient quantities to be harmful to the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. In addition, Crayola art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) Approved Product (AP) seal, which indicates these products are certified nontoxic and meet or exceed specific quality standards.

We appreciate your contact and hope this has been helpful. If additional assistance is needed, you may reach us by telephone at (800) 272-9652 weekdays between 9 AM and 4 PM Eastern time or email by visiting Crayola.com.

Best wishes for a colorful day.

Paraffin was determined to be safe to eat in the 1850s, when people added alum and chalk to bread and 1 in 3 infant deaths in London were due to bovine tuberculosis in adulterated milk.

Thank you for finding the links to the beeswax crayons!
