He can do a magic trick. Let him pick one or two easy tricks and keep practicing until the show.

A mime? He acts things out without talking and the audience has to guess what he's saying. He can wear a mime costume if that makes sense for the show.

He should pick something he enjoys. Singing, dance, acrobatics, read a funny poem, juggling, magic... It doesn't matter if other people are just as good or better.
But if he doesn't feel comfortable with anything, the school should respect his right to be an audience.

Please banish these words from your vocabulary, they are like poison.
Replace with "I have not identified his true talent", or "he is very talented at x but I can't see how to translate that to a stage performance".
And I agree with imasinger- a show is not a show if there is no audience.

I don't see what is so wrong with that. I have zero talents and very fine with it. Not everyone is talented

Maybe he can do a science experience? The Aim magazine has a lot of "jokes" or "tricks" in cartoon versions that can be used for such occasions.

This disagreement may be simply a language barrier about the definition of talent, but it doesn't sound good to me for a child to think he has no talent. Everyone has talent. But it is true that not everyone's talent is transferable to a stage performance.

What does he want to do? Have you asked him?

How about finding a funny story or poem to read out. A story with a little twist at the end, or with a joke. Not a made up story - find one in a book/ on-line.

I doubt the mom told her son what she was thinking. She came to an adult website and asked for advice. Unless he reads her posts, it shouldn't be a biggie.
