My chassidish neice is getting married in Sept, in Lakewood.
I need help for myself and my 13 yr old dd.
Firstly, what do 13 year olds wear? What's in style? She's already lady sizes, but I feel like a lady's gown is a bit much for her. (Not looking to spend a lot). Someone gave her a long black chiffon skirt, but no idea what kind of top is in style .
For myself, can I wear navy velvet, or is it too early?
Going anon bec of the many details.

I don't think they'd go for that style... also, I'd like to use the long skirt that she already has if it's not too "nebby".
Yeah, I was afraid it's too early for velvet, but hoped not to need a new gown.

well they can be worn with a shell ... although the price is too steep for me personally
why don't you browse the internet ? best way to find what YOU are looking for [or dh or dd]
maybe you could describe what you are thinking about or how these are wrong so we could continue to look for the right top

Greenie, I wish I knew what she will like, and what's in style. She usually likes very not in style things. They both hate ruffley things.

Hi! Chassidishe person here! Short in front and long in back is a great idea. Don't see why it wouldn't fly. But again, use your judgement. You have to feel comfortable.

Just wondering why you need a gown for a niece's wedding. Why wouldn't you and your daughter wear nice Shabbos outfits?

I don't know how Chassidish your niece is but I have found that by most Chassidish weddings, only the siblings and nieces wear gowns. Other family members wear better Shabbos clothing.

I think she means to say the nieces of the chassan/kallah. In other words, as a cousin, your daughter might not be expected to wear a gown.
