Im not sure.. Do we need seperate plastic containers for milky and meaty? I dont remember my mum having.

Absolutely! The flavors soak into the plastic, and you can't wash it out. They can't be kashered, obviously.
The good news, is that you don't have to shlep plastic down to the mikveh to toivel them.

What FF said. Yes, you need separate sets. (Not for glass containers.)
Who dips plastic? I've never heard of that!

Are you sure? I use plastic for both milk and meat. I asked my father who told me it was ok... he usually knows these things...

As far as I know it's not ok, but you say your father knows these things so maybe he knows something I don't know.
Ask a Rabbi to be sure.
(Could he be confusing it with glass? Or cold foods vs. hot?)
