a little background info: I have a son in a well known boys yeshiva in Flatbush. the teachers of that school do not give out their phone numbers. They state that if you have any concern or issue you should call the school and leave message and that teacher will call you back upon your request. BUT the teachers don't call back. or it takes them like days and weeks to call back while the issue at hand still lingers and child gets more resentful of the class. I had an issue last year with my older son were I left over 3 msg in office requesting for the teacher to call and she called like three weeks later.
Fast forward to presence. now my second son has started same school for first time in kindergarten. He is having hard time adjusting. the teachers are too strict with rules on him instead of building trusting relationship. for example my little one DESCIDED to take out his apple juice and drink it, the morah took away the drink and told him its not eating time now.but hey were did the juice go, he never got it back. my son just learned baal tashlis and inconscideration. he was crying and saying that he was hungry and needed that drink.
today I left msg for the kindergarten morah to call me. its almost 11 pm and I am waiting for that call. nothing.no phone call. so not fare and I am paying ALOT for this school.
any advice. I guess this is vent. thanx for viewing. I am ready to cry.

Maybe try going to the school office in person, rather than trying to reach them by phone? I find that often works better. Try to be as polite as possible, even though you are understandably distressed.

I would also write a note for my son to give the teacher directly. Explaining the problem and requesting her to call to work out what you can do to help the situation.

When I want to discuss anything I give my kids the note with my phone number to give to the teacher. They usually call the same evening.

If you don't get a response within 48hrs. I would call the school and ask to speak to the next level up- asst. principal/ principal whatever that may be. Don't blame the teacher for not calling back, just say you are concerned that your messages are not getting through and then share the issues that have been going on.

It is wonderful that your son knows to share with you- I am first learning now how miserable my dd was in kindergarten through 2nd grade and she is 17 now! What a difference her elementary school experience would have been had I known.
