Rabbi Kelemen has a 28 part series based on Rav wolbe's Planting and Building.

The best way to learn it to listen to the audio, and then read Planting and Building.
You can also buy To Kindle a Soul, but I would recommend reading it after listening, the audio is amazing.
Also try to identify what her misbehavior is triggering in you. Did you hit because you were overwhelmed and didn't know what to do? Was it because you were angry at her for not listening?
If its out of being overwhelmed parenting tools will help, if its because you got angry you need to look deeper and look at that part of you- where is it coming from (what thoughts and feelings are powering the behavior). A 5 year old is not deliberately trying to misbehave, she either just wants to do what she wants to do or is looking for attention.
