I was in Brooklyn and went to a local salon for nail buffing.
The woman charged me $9 and I gave her $10.
I left wondering if that was standard, or less? Now I'm feeling stingy for some reason.

In a Lakewood nail salon, there's a sign saying that a $2 tip minimum is required.
I'll be honest and say I find this annoying. Especially if I get the owner, whom I'm not particularly thrilled with, I feel like why do I have to tip her $2 if she gets the whole cost of the mani anyway?

$1 is 11% of the base fee. I am not familiar with manicures in Brooklyn, but in any tipping situation I give 15-20%.

In days gone by, the owner of a salon would charge a premium and not expect extra. If the owner charges the same as the general staff, the fees are calculated to account for standard tips. Why should the owner get less? The days of never tipping the owner have been over for many years.

Op here
At salon with more workers, I tip $2-3
However, this woman was the only worker plus owner here so I thought an extra dollar is fine?
She does keep the entire money (sans expenses of course)
