Any ideas for a fire safe preschool menorah? I was going to use Crayola Air Dry clay, but that has a warning not to use for candleholders/ near flames :-(

use the clay you wanted and give out crayons to use as pretend candles.

Bolts on a piece of wood, covered with aluminum foil?
Egg carton?
Or make it without real candles.

Make your own clay.
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
Optional: put food coloring in water before you add to clay mixture
Add flour and water as needed. Mix.
Or just ignore the warning. People have been making clay menorahs for thousands of years.

Giving out crayons to use as candles sounds super cute! Thanks for that idea.
I really don't like little kids with real fire menorahs anyway.

IMHO preschoolers should not make menorahs that even look usable. It's like setting up the expectation that a small child should or would light flames, which is just not age appropriate. And if as a parent I don't want my kid lighting her own menorah, that sets us up for a scene at home when expectation meets reality. Plus, the safety is too iffy. Sure people have been making clay menorahs for thousands of years, but people have also had menorah fires from time to time and it's always a miracle when no one gets hurt.
I am in favor of things like felt menorahs where they stick on a new felt candle or flame each night, paper/cardboard menorahs with stickers to put on as flames each night, things like that. Symbolic craft with zero fire.
