For what issue do you need a neurologist? There are neurologists that specialize in epilepsy, ADHD, brain tumors, etc...

You may want to call ECHO (845-425-9750) or Shuly Berman (718-437-7474) for a recommendation as well.

Op here.

Thanks.
I need somebody for my child's weird breathing patterns, facial tics, bizarre movement.

These things come and go.

Dr. Michael Gruttadauria. He's a functional neurologist, so rather than treat symptoms he'll look for the root of the problem.

He has an office in the city, where he charges five hundred a visit. If you have out of network coverage, that helps.

He has an office in Long Island where he charges half of what he charges in the city.

He may have another functional neurologist to refer you to, if you call his office. Tell him specifically your child's presenting problems.

The symptoms you describe makes me think of trauma that may be trapped in your child's nervous system. Perhaps going on vacation with him/her, sitting at a quiet beach where he/she can play with sand and water might do your child a lot of good.

If trauma is trapped in the system, a lot of rest and quiet and stress-free zone is required.

Op here.
So the 2 names my pediatrician recommended were Mcabee and Ffefer, which nobody mentioned here.
I'm deciding where to go. Anyone heard of the 2names above?

I really appreciate all answers.

Why don't you go by what your pediatrician sends u to? He's connected and sends patients all the time? None of us here do that as part of our jobs. Do u trust him?

I thought it was urgent......like in your heading. I wouldn't spend time here if it was that urgent

Hey you're usually not so rude.

My ped is not familiar with specialists.
He's a great dr but recommends based on which specialists accept Medicaid because that's what most of Brooklyn needs.

And when I said urgent, it didn't mean urgent for today.
It meant that I need to decide on a dr in the next few days because I must address the issue.

Sorry that it sounded rude. I was beginning to worry if it's urgent how come your still not decided. It was from a place of worry. Like there's no time and can't wait so what are you waiting? That was my thought.

I'm sorry. Not at all. Why don't you go by echo? They are the best in recommendation for medical stuff. They have the most up to date. I'm not sure imamother is that up to date. Refuah sheleima. Written words can be taken wrong bec it wasn't written properly.

I'm posting anonymously because I shared this with many people in my life. My kid was having what I thought were tics. Throat clearing, head going side to side, blinking, and then it got worse when my kid threw in arm waving/stretching (I don't even know how to describe it but it came after all of the above). I first went to the ENT because of the throat clearing. The ENT stated that his specialty was ear, nose, and throat, and he stuck a camera down my kid's nose and saw that my child's throat was indeed irritated from all of the throat clearing (and had a very hoarse voice). He wanted to rule out reflux. He prescribed medication. The medicine didn't do anything, and I decided (on my own) that this wasn't an ENT issue. Then I went to dr. hasson because I thought it was a tic issue. Dr. Hasson was very nice, and we spoke. He did not perform any tests, and he said that tics wax and wane, and it sounded like it was a tic. every doctor I was going to, was seeing the issue from the perspective of their specialty. Nothing wrong with that, except a person has to have the mazel to find the right specialist! I wasn't satisfied with that. I ended up going to an allergist, and guess what? The allergist thought it was brought on by allergies! I thought uh-oh, here we go again....but you know what? My son tested positive to year round allergens, the doc prescribed a med and within 2 weeks 50% of my kid's symptoms diminished. Within a month it had decreased to 85%. My kid is on allergy shots for over a year (I phased out the meds, only take em during high allergy seasons) and b'H, the "tics" are gone. They make minimal appearances...during allergy season! the blinking, throat clearing, even the head bop- it was because my kid was trying to stretch his throat because something was itching him in there! I have no explanation for the arm waving, but it stopped cold turkey and never came back again. So don't give up until you feel you have the right answer!

Thank you Sourstix.

And amother, you too I appreciate your sharing.

I will make an appt tomorrow with one dr and I guess I can always go for a second and third opinion if I am doubting myself.

If anyone else has something to add, please do.
