My kids and I often get strep.

Every night I put all the toothbrushes in the dish washer.

I find if I don't do that then the strep stays on the toothbrush and
every time it goes in your mouth at night it puts the strep germs back in your mouth.

It worked for us Smile

I once read about a study that showed that children that had a rapid step test & got antibiotics immediately got sick again soon. Those who had overnight test did not get sick again. The theory is that you want to give the body's immune system time to fight the strep before you medicate.

I would also second giving acidophiles, making sure it's as far away from the antibiotic (time-wise) as possible.

This is so apt for me today. I have a throat infection, I'm pretty sure it is strep, but I only started showing symptoms yesterday morning. I got to see a fab out-of-hours doctor who said it is too early to give me antibiotics and if I don't get better in 2-3 days see my GP.

I got so many throat infections as a teenager, that at 17 I was referred to a throat specialist (more specialist than an ENT) who put a camera up my nose (I think, this was a few years back) and after a few minutes said my tonsils were rubbish and had to come out. I had it done under general anaesthetic the week of my 18th birthday and recovery was awful. It did work though, this is either the first or second time I've been ill like this since then.

Wishing everyone who is poorly to get well soon!

There is a possibility of the strep having entered the blood stream and going to the brain-I forgot the name its not as scary as it sounds!!!! they diagnose this with blood work (don'r remember which one.) Common symptoms are not sleeping through the night, thirst at night, and behavioral issues

another idea is to contact the etrogman.com (israel) and ask him to send you (he ships to usa) etrog spray. explain the situation to him in detail. it is supposed to work like a charm!
good luck!

Are you referring to PANDAS? My child has it. It is really tough. Overnight he became a different person. Anxiety, behavioral issues, tics, a limp and more. Months and months of different treatments and our family dealing with his behavior.

OP perhaps you should see another dr. for a second opinion? You do want want to risk your child getting pandas. I can imagine they will put your child on antibiotics for a month, or want to take out his tonsils.

I want to point out that your pediatritian doesnt seem to be able to handle this properly. if your DC had strep 15X HE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO OTHER METHODS OF TREATMENT!. ITS UNACCEPTABLE. I would see a specialist or get another opinion from a different pediatrician. good luck!!

This was my thought as well. 15x in one year, if OP is being accurate and not exaggerating, is significantly over once per month. I can't imagine my pediatrician seeing the same child for strep 4 times in 2 months and not changing something about the diagnosis or treatment approaches.

About PANDAS - I don't know if having strep more times increases the risk. It's an autoimmune type of thing and has more to do with how your immune system works than with a specific infection. I could be wrong, though.

I had continuous strep throat with symptoms until my tonsils were removed at 9. Haven't had strep since. They said my tonsils were harboring a huge mass of bacteria.

OP's kid is at least 8 by now- I certainly hope she's dealt with the problem!
