I'm losing hope. I'm committed to hair covering but my head/scalp is very sensitive and I just don't know what to do! I think I need a sensory hair covering specialist to help figure out how to meet my needs in a hair covering!

I'm most comfortable in a pretied tichel or plain Israeli tichel. Even then, I sometimes have to do my tichel over a couple of times to get it comfortable - that's after quite a few years of practice. But I don't feel properly dressed like that so I need something else.

Wrapunzel style or actually any wrap/scarf/tichel more than plain Israeli lightweight type starts to feel pull-y or heavy on the back of my head. Plus it's such a "patchka" to make it look normal and be at all comfortable.

To work I've been wearing hats with a wig grip band underneath. It's bearable but there are very limited hats that I feel comfortable in, and I don't love the look.

I have a sheitel I got before I got married, that I went through a lot to choose because it was hard to get even close to comfortable, but I didn't know anything about wigs and didn't have a whole lot of help figuring this out. I was frustrated with all the fails and took the first thing that didn't drive me crazy. A few wears later, it drove me crazy.

So I finally decided to try again. I went to a highly recommended sheitel macher and tried on a few pieces. First of all, I feel like this quest is doomed because once I try on something that bothers me, it's like my head is destroyed for the rest of the day. But here's what I learned from the experience:

I thought a fall would be better because it would get the hair away from the ears and face, but I think they actually felt worse because I felt more pulling around the circumference. Even when they were actually loose. I think something about being attached across the top of the head rather than the front does that.

Tried both with and without the wig grip. The wig grip helps with the clippy parts but no matter how loosely I tried to rest it, I always felt more tension around the circumference with the wig grip.

Even the one that seemed the most hopeful, after having it on for a while my head felt just as bad as with my current sheitel. But that may have been because my posture was all messed up from reaching up and playing with it so much, and/or because I did a bunch of taking it off and fiddling with clips vs wig grip vs repositioning clips etc, and all that fooling around may have made it worse. Still, I think just having something on my head got to bother me. But that was also with hair going over my ears and around because it wasn't styled yet.

The part that drives me the most crazy is when it's not perfectly smooth around the ears and when there are little hairs poking out around the border by the ears or neck.

I tried a Wunderwig because I kept hearing how amazingly comfortable they are even though over my budget, but I didn't find it all that comfortable. However that was after I was thoroughly done with all those others, so I wasn't in much of a position to judge. But it seemed like it was going to have the same pully-feeling issue as the other falls, plus a whole lot more hair - it was really thick!

Helllllp! Can anyone recommend a "wig therapist" in the general NY area who might be able to help with this? I wonder if someone who specializes in cancer patients has more of an eye for comfort? Seriously I'm grasping at straws here. I'm tired of wearing pretied snoods everywhere and feeling underdressed.

I thought I wouldn't be able to do head coverings at all bc I'm so sensitive too! I could never even wear a pony/bun without having a headache half way through the day!!

What helped me was to have my shaitel macher take out my clips by the side and get a big of a looser wig. I then wear a wig band with the Velcro just tight enough it doesn't fall off and put the top shaitel clip under the band for extra support, not actually touching my hair.

I wish you much hatzlacha with this!!!!

I feel for you, as I too am sensory and I end up with headaches most days that I step outside.

You might want to consider Adorna by Milano. They have a variety of hats and caps that come with hair extensions velcroed inside. The hats/caps are interchangeable so you only need to purchase one wig piece. The "wig" doesn't pull your hair because it's connected only to the hat.

I hear you!

I shave the hairs in front of my ears, and the back of my neck. If I let my hair down for DH, he can't tell at all, and it doesn't look weird.

I find Parkhurst cotton hats cover everything extremely well, and they are very soft and comfy. Easy to wash, too. They're not cheap, but you can often find last season's styles on Ebay at good prices. The wool hats are gorgeous, but personally I find them too itchy. They look much more professional and pulled together than a tichel, especially if you use a sash or brooch as an accent.

I'm wearing this one right now, and it covers every strand, without a wig grip. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chemo-.....74097

ETA: This would be quite appropriate in an office setting: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-by.....15659

Dang it, now I want to go hat shopping!
