I hate my name. But I hate the common nickname associated with my name even more.
You can tell who is really my friend bcz my true friends would never call me by my nickname.

Op here. Thanks for all your input. I like the idea of nicknames in general. I think they are fun and endearing, so I'm hoping to come up with some different nickname for this name. But I guess worst case scenario we will just use the full name.

I hate the nickname Manny but we still named our son Immanuel. He's 10 now and it has never been shortened. I pounced on the few who dared early on.
Our second son is Zevulun and he's recently started using Zev at his school (public school). I prefer his full name but he'd rather the nickname than his first name being butchered which I understand so I can't argue too much.
