I automatically think of the terrorist Leila Khaled.

I think of the old Israeli song "Leila, Leila." That's probably not the real name .

Leila is a very cool name and I like it.
What associations do you have with it? (Asking anyone)

Eric Clapton's love anthem about Pattie Boyd ("Layla")

Are you looking for Israeli secular Hebrew names, American/English-language, or something else? The connotation of a name is often strongly culturally dependent.

Thanks--I had a strange vibe when I said the name even though I think it's pretty and I couldn't think of why. I think it's actually this reference that it makes me think of.
It's a very beautiful name but I don't think I will use it.

American/English, to the effect that it doesn't have 'ch' or sound very culturally Jewish like Faigy or Kreindy.
Just as an example if this baby were a boy his name would've been Tal. It's Hebrew but it has a chic, easy sound to it so it totally works for us.

My other children have names like Ali, Daniel, Sammi, Ben (not their real names but all names we considered)...

Nothing to add, just saying that I really like Lily and Kira Smile

Thanks! Maybe I'll post my final list later as a poll and see which names people like hearing!

This is my first girl and we thank god don't have any grandparents to name after so I am very excited to choose a beautiful name for her.

This one isn't traditional at all but I think it's great:
Azalea

Like the flower 🌺!

There is a famous rapper now by that name! Iggy Azalea. I wouldn't do that to my daughter Very Happy

Hey now - my cat's name is Iggy. (After Iggy Pop, not Iggy Azalea, natch.)

OP, if you want the name to be able to span a few cultural zones, I would go for classic names like Hannah, Emma, Rose, Rachel, Sarah, Rebecca (Becca is a cute nickname IMO), or Leah, which could be spelled Leia, depending on your level of fandom and how you'd like to have it pronounced. Mayim is also a familiar but unusual name thanks to Mayim Bialik, and has a lovely sound and significance.

Not to hijack the thread, but I thought Iggy Azalea was caught in a mini-scandal when it came out that she couldn't freestyle to save her life. I saw it on Facebook - not as bad as Milli Vanilli, but she was a novelty act because of her looks.

Hijack away for an important cause! Wink she can't freestyle? Then it's decided. My daughter will not be Azalea.
