I like to spell kids names on legal papers so they are pronounced as correctly as possible and are not mistaken for "biblical" names quite commonly used by non-Jews (does it make sense to you? Eg, I spell kids names Yosef, Moshe etc.). so I really liked how one member here spelled her sons name "Donniel".

However after googling it the (almost) only result with this spelling comes up as some guy who started coming out with a kind of kefira just recently, in 2016.

I'm concerned that down the road he may become the main known person with this spelling, and my sons name will be associated with that person by every nonjew or Jew whom he ever encounters. Any ideas? Just spell it "Daniel" and forget about it?

Just spell it Daniel. You can pronounce it Dan-yel or Da-ni-el.

I looooooooooooove Daniel. It's such a beautiful name.

I guess I'll do that. It'll also make it easier if it ever needs to be transliterated to non-Latin alphabet languages.

Spell it Doniel if you don't want the English pronunciation.

Hi. I have a baby named Doniel knH. When he was born, we had a whole discussion of how to spell his name and were worried that If we spelled it wth an A, everyone would call him by the English pronunciation so we stuck with the Doniel spelling. I work with non jews and it is very easy for them to pronounce Doniel. In fact when my black colleague heard the name, she said "Oh good. The first normal name!" as my other kids all have Hebrew names that she is aware of. LOL.

Lymnok and cornflower, won't they pronounce "doniel" as "dough-knee-ale", or "dough-kneel"?

The double 'n' would cause it to be pronounced Donniel, as we say it, as opposed to dough-kneel.

Not to spell a name like that, because someone might Google him, and come across the conservative Rabbi Donniel Hartman, is a really wacky reason not to spell a name like that.

On may occasions I've tried searching a person I want on google, and if I come across someone else with the same name I just move on (search on).

I assume your last name is not Hartman anyway.

That is not a reason not to spell his name like that, if that's your only reason!

Just FTR, Donniel Hartman is not affiliated with the Conservative movement.
(Very) LW MO is probably the best category to define him.
His political views are also very liberal.

Salt, thank you for your advice.
To clarify, I didn't mean that someone would Google info on my kid and come across Hartman. Rather, that because of this peculiar spelling people would assume things about him or his background (ie parents) that are incorrect. (given that "donniel" isn't common at all, and probably the *only* widely known "donniel" is donniel Hartman).

My cousin is Donniel too. He never seemed to have any issue with it.

I don't get it.

What is so offensive about someone calling him Dan-yel?

No offense, but Donniel to me looks weird, like you are trying way too hard.
