nah never check ~ but on occasion I sense a bad one & I break out in song "found a peanut ... it was rotten ... etc. last night ..."
if there was a bug I would never know
on the flip side I definitely open a fig before eating

I love sunflower seeds, but when my Israeli DGC showed me how they need to be checked (and showed me what they find in them), I stopped eating them as that was a pain. I've switched to pumpkin seeds which don't need to be checked like that.

I've never found anything alive (or formerly alive) but sometimes bits of twig or other seeds.
