was coming back to my mother's house late last night & to my chagrin the city bus, I usually take to transfer from the train, was no longer working cause it was after 11:00 pm ...
in my entire life I have never heard of this ... thought new york is dubbed 'the city that never sleeps'
ordinarily I would walk but I wasn't in the mood to get killed

Lol!
There are definitely some buses that stop operating after a certain time at night. 11pm is pretty early though. There are buses that don't run on weekends and trains as well (or at least 1 train I can think of).

When you are in the mood please tell me, I might be able to help you out with it.
