are you sure it's flu related ?
sonny boy had chronic strep with very high fevers ... a day after we would stop medication he would break out again & he was lethargic
he was on prophylactic medicine until the doctor took out his tonsils & adenoids

You can also try calling your old NY Doctor for a second opinion, it sounds like you had a good relationship with him. It's not the same as a full visit but he may be able to alleviate some worry.
