DS refusing to take iron supplement. Help please!

You cannot give iron with milk or milkshakes. Dairy blocks the absorption of iron which is why excessive cow milk intake is the most common cause of low iron in children.

You can mix it with orange juice as the acid improves the absorption.

Molasses is very high in iron and other vitamins and minerals. It's sweet, and he might like it straight from the spoon. It's hard to calibrate how much he needs to get his levels up, but his blood work checkup will tell you if it's working.

I wish you a lot of luck, it sounds nerve wracking! (DD was horrible about taking any kind of medicine at that age, too. I feel your pain.)

The iron gummies are really a good option, please look into them. If one doesn't have enough, give him two.
