Many other names are commonly shortened to one syllable such as Yitz, Moish, Yo/Jo, Ash, Ben

Tzvi is a short name but is a mouthful when you are saying it combined with another name. (Tzvi dovid, tzvi baruch, tzvi moshe)
Chaim in the other hand is a bit longer but usually flows well when it's the first name. (think of chaim dovid, chaim baruch, chaim moshe) So it really depends.
